The Secret Circle -1×22- Family

First, the finale I liked it. Cassie was really good and there were many interesting moments. The most being when Adam was getting the crap beaten out of his by Blackwell. Cassie instead of realizing that Diana probably loves Adam for that she does and could definitely be talked into do whatever to save him. Cassie immediately goes to forcing Diana to release her dark magic by trying to kill her. After seeing the second half of S2 and Britt's movie Triple Dog. I think she can act, but as a bad girl who cares about people but still likes power and danger. Cassie was charismatic when she was evil and very interesting to watch. Also glad that the solo magic returned Faye to her element loyal kick ass bad girl not damsel in distress. If any character was hurt by bound magic, it was her. She was back indeed. Charles and Dawn realizing what their quest for power had cost them, Faye almost dying and Diana almost being corrputed by her evil bio dad, and then fighting to make it right. Charles death scene was moving, but bringing him back so Diana can realize that her biology isn't destiny and that she is a Meade and isn't alone would have been a good arc for her. She works better as the moral center of the group. I loved the scene where Melissa and decide immediately after getting solo magic to get Faye and that the show remembered that Faye/Melissa has always been as important to them if not more than Faye/Jake and Melissa/Nick. However, I heard that Pheobe had to request that moment, which was my favorite of the night, so not much a positive deveoplment on the writing front. Nick's best contribution to the show was the mini circle of Faye/Melissa/Nick who just wanted to have fun and enjoy their magical powers. The Faye/Melissa/Diana mini circle transititonal period definitely started to show the weary Diana, sick of being the responsible one while she's hurting, losing Adam, finding out about Blackwell, Charles killing Ameila, and lastly Charles "dying". Which definitely showed nicely in the finale. However, finally getting back the old mini circle dynamic with Nick replacing Jake freeing up Diana to deal with her issues and letting Jake relax and do something other than pine after Cassie and become more likable was definitely a goodthing.

Ok, so I know that I've seen where this show was going maybe it was best for it to end on a high note. I like parts of what could have been S2 it Faye transitioning into Dawn with Dawn transitioning into a reluctant elder to try to save Faye from repeating her mistakes. Cassie trying to become head Balcoin to replace the family she lost and because she's a dark magic junkie. Then there parts I wouldn't mind if they weren't together like Melissa/Adam and Adam going dark, but together they're horrible. Then there is the garabage like the Faye/Jake/Cassie triangle starting up again. These writers don't get the character relationships on this show. It's close like I don't have a problem with Charles going dark because of the demons or Adam getting seduced by the crystal skull because he's sick of being on the sidelines while the people he loves are in danger. However, connect them to the obvious storyline of Diana feeling that's she's necessarily going to be evil because of her Balcoin blood and that everyone she loves is gone. Realizing that Charles and Adam are her family like they've always been and that she can help them not because she's a Balcoin but she's Diana Meade is a good arc. Not bringing in Melissa so she can pine over another bad boy, even though the fact that Adam is nice guy is what drew her in the first place. And not having Charles once again being seduced by dark demon magic because hell he already lost her daugther one because of killing for magic and he was willing to die trying to make sure Diana's friends and ultimately Diana herself were safe. Have Charles fight the demons, because utilmately wile he's close to Blackwell and Eban, his love for Diana as her father sets him apart and he ultimately saw that.
