Gossip Girl -5×7- The Big Sleep No More

The setup of this episode, involving "Sleep No More" had so much promise and I think the writers just didn't deliver.

What they did with Blair was practically character assasination - she's pregnant, engaged, and supposedly in love with Louis. The Blair I grew to love over the years wouldn't tempt fate like she did with Chuck in this episode as that would be disloyal to her fiance. As much as I'm tired of Chair, it does cheapen the Chair dynamic when they trot it out for things like this.

I also don't think Dan would give up so quickly on his book signings. That seemed overly out-of-character too. Maybe if they showed him heckled or something, but just a low turnout doesn't seem like enough justification.

The character I'm warming up to the most - surprisingly - is Charlie / Ivy. Yes, she's conning the Van Der Woodsen's, but she doesn't seem like she has cruel intentions, and it would bring me great joy if she somehow exposes the double crosses Diana's been pulling.

I don't get why Nate's grandfather would want Diana to get Nate involved with the Spectator - isn't this essentially a glorified tabloid? Why would the grandfather want that for Nate versus something more traditionally respectable? And why would Diana mention that she has Serena where she wants her there as well? Does the grandfather know about the cougar-shenanigans too?
