I liked how they took what could've been sitcommy situations and turned them around. I was expecting Phil and Jay to have a completely-at-cross-purposes-neither-knows-what-the-other-is-talking-about-conversation. Instead, we get a nice pep talk from Jay to Phil; showing that he really does think highly of him. Simarly, I wasn't expecting Claire to recognize the parallels between her and Mitchell and the respective "parents". Or Gloria to be so matter-of-fact about her and Claire's relationship. "I'm not even your favorite Colombian in the family." On the laugh out loud front, Manny and Luke just killed it. And "clown sleeping"!
